Marcin Masecki, born 1982, a young pianist and composer from Warsaw, member of Lado ABC label. A leader and member of many various projects. One of the most prolific and original musician of the young generation, recording and performing classical music as well as jazz, avant-garde and even pop music. Masecki graduated Berklee College of Music in Boston. He was the leader of Profesjonalizm band, executive of the first edition of WOR (Warsaw Entertainment Orchestra) and a member of an international band Paristetris. He was awarded Polityka’s Passport for the project Polonezy – ten-member brass orchestra performing original set of polonaises. Collaborated with Tomasz Stańko, George Garzone, Hal Crook, Dave Samuels, Michał Urbaniak, Wojciech Waglewski, Reni Jusis. He won First Prize at the Moscow International Jazz Piano Competition 2005.
Masecki is well-known for presenting classical music in an extraordinary way (extraordinary places, instruments, interpretation). He advocates treating classical music as a rightful element of modern music scene and not just as an exclusive museum display.
During Freedom Games 2014, he will present “Antykrystyna” project. It is a duet: Marcin Masecki playing keyboard instruments and Macio Moretti percussion instruments. The project was inspired by a press release found by Tomasz Wolszczak, informing about a new place in Warsaw – a coffeehouse combined with scrap yard called “Pod Arkadami” (eng. Under Arcades). The music is an excellent duet, a mixture of everything the musicians have listened to and selected elements of what they have not yet heard. Their concerts are spontaneous and energetic.
